Celtic linked forward Gyrano Kerk has been named Utrecht’s Player of the Year but there is no guarantee that he’ll be staying at the Eredivisie outfit for another season, as pointed out by technical director Jordy Zuidam to Voetbal Primeur.

In truth, the battle to be crowned Utrecht’s best performer across the 2019/20 campaign was pretty much a one-horse race.

Kerk has always been one of the most exciting attackers in the Netherlands thanks to his explosive pace but, at long last, the devilish Dutchman has added a ruthless streak to his raw pace.

With 11 goals and 12 assists, it was he who put John Van den Brom’s side in contention for a Europa League berth which was cruelly snatched away from them when the Dutch season was curtailed in April.

Now that there will be no continental football in 2020/21, surely now Utrecht will be vulnerable to losing their star players, including Kerk, in the upcoming transfer window?

“Everyone has a price tag,” Zuidam admits to Voetbal Primeur, who suggest that former Groningen forward Mimoun Mahi has been lined up as a potential replacement.

RTV Utrecht reported last month that, with just two years left on his contract, Utrecht would be willing to accept bids of £3.5 million for Kerk.

This comes after coach Van den Brom admitted himself that Celtic were sniffing around his ever-improving talisman.

“Celtic were the club most interested,” he told the Daily Record. “I think there will be a lot of interest in Gyrano again. We are expecting that.”
