Tam McManus has singled out David Turnbull for praise after a brilliant European debut for Celtic on Thursday night.
The Hoops rounded off an otherwise dismal Europa League campaign with a 3-2 win over Lille at Parkhead.
And the Scottish midfielder, playing for the first-ever time in a continental competition, dazzled in a big way.
Turnbull, a £3 million signing by Celtic this past summer, swung in the corner which led to Christopher Jullien opening the scoring on 22 minutes, before scoring the winner 15 minutes from time to cap a memorable Europa League bow.
The 21-year-old had only started one game for Celtic this season prior to last night and his 153 Premiership minutes are spread across seven outings.
Many fans of the Paradise club have been imploring Neil Lennon to unleash him in recent weeks and months, as the team have suffered in a big way.
And McManus has claimed on Twitter that it was ‘glaring’ to ‘everyone and their granny’ that Celtic needed a player like this.
There’s a hundred and one reasons to slate Lennon this season, but his reserved approach with Turnbull isn’t one of them.
This is a player who has already had one long-term knee injury in his burgeoning career and the Irish coach is dead right to be cautious.
