Peter Schmeichel says Leeds United transfer target Dominik Livakovic is ‘storming onto world scene’ after his great performances at the Qatar World Cup for Croatia.
The legendary keeper added that ‘everybody’ now knows about the 27-year-old Dinamo Zagreb star, after he helped Croatia reach the semi-final of the World Cup.
Livakovic standout moment came against Brazil when he saved three penalties to boot the South American giants out of the tournament.
Before then, he was already being talked about, but that moment just elevated his status even further.
During his playing days, Schmeichel was one of the best in the world at his unique trade and he likes what he sees from Livakovic, who he expects to leave Zagreb, as he told beIN SPORTS (13/12/22 at 6:15 pm).
“I think he is one of those players who is now storming onto the world scene,” said Schmeichel. “Everybody knows about him. Everybody knows who he is.
“At the moment, he plays in Zagreb, but he has also been good in all of the other games at the World Cup. At the penalty shootout (against Brazil), he was the hero. He had 11 saves against Brazil. Not all of them were massive and difficult saves. But you still have to do that.
“He has been very, very good and I would be very, very surprised if he stays in Zagreb now. He is one of those goalkeepers who a lot of clubs will be now looking at. Following him over this period and see if this was a four-week period where everything came right for him.
“Or, if that’s what he can really produce. If that’s the case, then it won’t him long to get to a bigger club, that’s for sure.”
LEEDS INTERESTED IN LIVAKOVIC
Young French goalkeeper Illan Meslier is the man in between Leeds’ sticks, and he has been since their promotion to the big time.
At times, he can look nervy, rash and have a mistake in him – cite back to Leeds’ defeat to Brentford at the start of the season.
But then, he can produce those masterclass performances, as he did when Jesse Marsch’s side rocked up to Anfield and beat Liverpool.
Despite that, Livakovic’s performances have got him recognised on the Premier League stages, including Leeds being keen on signing him.
