Declan Rice has claimed that ‘every time’ West Ham United play against Leeds United, they know that it’s going to be ‘tough’, as he told ITV Sport.
West Ham knocked Leeds out of the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday and Jarrod Bowen shared that his team ‘took some of the storm’ before he put the game to bed.
It was a controversial opening goal from Manuel Lanzini in the first half, with the opposition unhappy because they felt there was an offside.
Either way, the goal stood and Bowen then wrapped things up right at the death to put his team’s name into the hat for the fourth round.
After the game, both Rice and Bowen, who played the entire game, shared their thoughts on what it’s like facing up against Leeds.
“Every time we play Leeds, we know it’s going to be tough,” said Rice. “That’s why the manager picks a strong team.”
“We knew they were going to be difficult to play against,” added Bowen. “They always are. We stuck in there at 1-0, took some of the storm and, in the end, took the goal to put the game to bed.”
After locking horns in the FA Cup, it’s another trip to the London Stadium for Leeds on Sunday, this time a Premier League encounter.
Given that the Hammers played a pretty strong side yesterday, it wouldn’t be a surprise if there are no changes for the weekend clash.
As for Leeds, it will be interesting to see if Patrick Bamford returns to action because many felt that he would make the FA Cup trip.
If he does return, then it would be a serious welcome boost for the Whites because they are a far better outfit with him leading the line.
