Marcelo Bielsa told Leeds Live that Rodrigo is improving ‘every time’ and he had ‘a lot of incidents’ during his side’s 5-2 thumping of Newcastle United last night.

The 29-year-old found the back of the net at Elland Road when Jack Harrison’s pin-point cross saw the Spaniard head home to make it 2-1, at the time.

Whilst Rodrigo isn’t someone who will score a bucket full of goals, it shouldn’t hide away from what he provides Leeds without the ball and the intelligence he shows to link up play when on the ball.

After the game, Bielsa shared his thoughts on Rodrigo’s performance and stated that he is pleased with how he is settling into life in Yorkshire.

“As he gains more minutes, he improves every time,” said Bielsa. “And today he had a lot of incidents in the game.

On Rodrigo and Raphinha adapting: “The players have been with us three or four months now. Their adaptation is going how we would like.”

Bielsa-ball was in full flow last night and Newcastle manager Steve Bruce had no answer to his counterpart.

The Magpies were ripped apart for the full 90 minutes, with the home side covering every blade of grass.

It’s perhaps what annoys Newcastle fans because, on one hand, they see Leeds playing progressive and high energy football, whilst their team absorbs pressure, sits in a low block and then are ponderous in their play.
