Chelsea won’t be signing target and West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice this summer.

Back in June, Football London reported the West Londoners’ ‘long term’ interest in bringing the England international back to Stamford Bridge, where he was released as a youngster.

It’s been obvious for quite a while that Rice – valued at £150 million – would be staying at West Ham beyond this summer transfer window.

One man who would love to see him at Chelsea is John Terry, going by his latest tweet.

West Ham secured a 1-0 victory away to Aston Villa on Sunday, their first win of the Premier League campaign.

According to WhoScored, Rice managed three clearance, two key passes and an assist for Pablo Fornals’s winner for the Irons.

And Terry has lavished praise on the 23-year-old. Here’s what he tweeted:

West Ham supporters are tired of seeing speculation about their golden boy potentially leave East London.

But fortunately, as mentioned, that won’t be happening this summer.

But if the Hammers want to keep him long term, improvement is vital.

United spent much of last season genuinely challenging for Champions League qualification and although it’s a massive ask, given what other outfits have spent this summer, that has to be the overall aim for Moyes at West Ham.

Competition has never been stiffer, and Newcastle’s emergence as a financial superpower haven’t helped outfits like the Irons.

This was West Ham’s first victory of the campaign and hopefully influential players like Rice can help Moyes’s side shoot up the table from here on in.
