Leaving aside the sacking of Kenny Dalglish, and the speculation surrounding the Arsenal captain, the other hot talking point this week is whether Chelsea are resilient enough to win the Champions League tonight.
With a Premier League season that left them squarely outside of the top four, this is Chelsea’s last stab at glory which they simply cannot afford to pass up.
Are they strong enough, and what would a Chelsea win mean to the Premier League?
Clearly Tottenham fans are worried. To be dumped out of a Champions League place, albeit a place where they would still have to qualify is, to say the least, unbecoming.
Arsenal fans are delighted that the arch foe might be upended, but I think that one shouldn’t count their chickens before they hatch.
The Champions League is very different from the Premier League, and although they don’t have home advantage, Chelsea are capable.
Especially after dumping Barcelona out of the competition, and because this match is winner takes all, they must believe they have the beating of Bayern Munich.
The bookies in my part of London seem to be giving odds in favour of Chelsea, and in my experience they are often right.
So hang on to your hats for one last gasp extravaganza.
The stakes are high for Chelsea, but they are also crucial for Tottenham who had a very good season, but who might just come away at the end of it with nothing…
Can Chelsea do it tonight? Or will another London club be celebrating?
