Rafa Benitez has hailed Callum Wilson and Eddie Howe after Newcastle United’s comeback win over relegation-threatened Southampton on Sunday at St James’ Park.
The former Newcastle United boss added that the Toon Army faithful will be ‘celebrating every day’ if they secure Champions League football, after Callum Wilson’s brace against the Saints.
They are 11 points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham, and unless they collapse in the most ridiculous of ways, a top-four finish is around the corner.

Eddie Howe has done a quite an outstanding job because, whilst the long-term aim would have been Champions League and to win trophies, to get past the first target in his first full season in charge should be applauded.
And added to the possibility that Mikel Arteta doesn’t guide Arsenal to the Premier League title, then Howe might also win Manager of the Season.
Nonetheless, after the Magpies saw off Southampton today, this is what Benitez made of it all, as he told Premier League Productions (30/03/23 at 4:15 pm).
“They were under pressure with this goal (Armstrong’s opener),’ said Benitez. “But after that, they played with a lot of confidence.
“Wilson is doing well. I think they are playing with a lot of confidence.
On Newcastle in CL: “I think it’s massive for everyone. After the time when they weren’t investing, then the new owners (are now) investing a lot of money.
“Eddie Howe is doing a great, great job. I think everybody will be over the moon, as you say in English. They will be around the city celebrating every day.”

NEWCASTLE FLYING
Other than that Aston Villa defeat, Newcastle have been flying high for weeks now and they have reacted well to that Villa Park drubbing.
They can’t stop scoring, whether it’s Alexander Isak channelling his inner Thierry Henry, or Wilson scoring two from the bench.
There is no stopping this Newcastle side, and come next season when they are playing against the elite, this squad of players will only go to the next level.
