Mills’ suggestion that Zaha took the easier option by snubbing England appears to have irked the Everton winger, who left Crystal Palace last summer.
Everton’s Yannick Bolasie celebrates
Everton’s Yannick Bolasie has offered his reaction to Danny Mills’ suggestion that Wilfried Zaha ‘took the easier option’ by snubbing England for the Ivory Coast.
Zaha has been in fine form for Crystal Palace this season, scoring eight goals and making another five to draw fresh interest from England, for whom he won two caps between 2012 and 2013.
Instead, the Eagles winger – and former Selhurst Park teammate of Bolasie – chose to represent the country of his birth, despite the efforts of Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate late last year.
And Zaha has been quick to show England what they are missing, scoring twice in six outings for the Elephants – one a superb solo strike during Friday’s 2-0 win against Russia.
Speaking to Talksport on Tuesday, however, Mills – the former England right-back – expressed his belief that Zaha only chose the Ivory Coast as his England chances would likely be ‘limited’.
But Bolasie tweeted afterwards: “Can’t agree with this tbh”.
Zaha’s situation is one of which Bolasie will be very aware, having chosen to represent DR Congo four years ago, despite the possibility of playing for either England or France in future.
The 27-year-old, who left Palace for Everton in a £25 million deal last summer, has since won 31 caps for the Leopards.
