The Everton star believes Arsenal should have sold Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil during the summer.

Wayne Rooney of Everton looks on during the Premier League match between Everton and Watford at Goodison Park on November 5, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Toffees hitman Wayne Rooney spoke to talkSPORT this morning, and offered a word of warning for the Gunners, suggesting that they should have sold Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez during the summer transfer window.

The superstar pair have received certain levels of criticism so far this season, for what many perceive to have been lacklustre displays, devoid of any genuine commitment to the club.

The Chilean has racked up just four goals and three assists in 15 Premier League outings for Arsenal thus far, whilst the Germany international has registered only three goals and five assists in the same amount of games as Sanchez.

Arsene Wenger’s men have been extremely inconsistent so far this term, and currently sit in fifth position in the league table – a full 19 points adrift of league leaders Manchester City.

And Rooney believes they would have been in a better position, had they sold the star duo in the summer.

He told talkSPORT:

Wayne Rooney of Everton during the Premier League match between Everton and Stoke City at Goodison Park on August 12, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

“With the two of them not signing contracts in the summer, I think that told you everything. The way it is, I don’t think they will be at Arsenal [next season]. I feel they should have taken the money and looked elsewhere because, although they are top players and it is difficult to let those players leave the football club, when the going gets tough – as it is at the minute for Arsenal – you want players who want to be there and you can put your trust in. If they are not going to be there at the end of the season, maybe there are a few question marks.”

Only time will tell if either Ozil or Sanchez do in fact end up leaving the Emirates, but either way, it seems absolutely incredible that Wenger has allowed both of them to enter the final year of their current contracts, with the prospect of them leaving for nothing in the summer now looking like a very real possibility.
