Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are both said to be keen on signing Everton midfielder Ross Barkley.

Everton’s summer transfer window appears to have been nothing short of a disaster for the club, and the latest news in the Telegraph about Ross Barkley suggests it could have just got even worse.

There was great optimism around Goodison Park after a summer of big spending, but very few of Koeman’s transfers have worked out as hoped.

Wayne Rooney, Davy Klaassen, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Sandro Ramirez and Michael Keane all arrived on Merseyside with great expectations around them, but they have failed to impress so far.

Everton appear to have left themselves short up-front, and there is a distinct lack of pace throughout the side.

The Toffees are currently in 16th place in the Premier League table, and the bad news just keeps on coming at the moment for the Merseyside club.

Everton had agreed a £35 million fee with Chelsea for Barkley in August, but two months later – they may have lost £15 million on the price-tag, through no fault of their own.

Barkley picked up an injury, which caused his potential deal to fall through, and now Everton are in a weak bargaining position.

Barkley’s contract at Everton expires at the end of the season, and Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are now lining up to take the attacking midfielder.

Chelsea and Spurs reportedly believe that they can get Barkley for £20 million, causing Everton to miss out on £15 million, which could have gone towards making some much needed renovations to their squad.
