During the January window, Everton did not spend a penny on transfer fees.

The only move made by the Friedkin Group was to bring in Tyrique George on loan from Chelsea, which would have involved little more than a standard loan fee.

The Toffees appear to be holding back funds for a busy summer under David Moyes, and according to The i Paper, the exact budget has now been revealed.

How much will Everton be able to spend?

The i Paper reports that football finance experts believe Everton can spend up to £70m on new signings this summer without running into any issues with financial regulations.

Moyes could have even more money to work with if he manages to take the Toffees back into Europe for the first time since Ronald Koeman’s team reached the Europa League in 2017/18.

Even finishing eighth might be enough, depending on who lifts the FA Cup this year. After their recent 2-1 win at Fulham, that is exactly where they currently sit in the table.

Everton exploring free transfers to help budget go further

In today’s market, £70m does not stretch as far as it used to. Crystal Palace spent more than that in January alone on Brennan Johnson and Jorgen Strand Larsen.

With that in mind, Everton are already looking for ways to make their budget go further, including searching the free agent market.

According to reports, Marco Senesi is one name they are interested in. The Argentine defender is set to become a free agent when his contract with Bournemouth expires at the end of the season.

The Toffees also made a late move for Harry Wilson during the winter window. With the 28-year-old in the final six months of his deal at Fulham, he is another player who could be picked up without a fee this summer.

If the Friedkin Group can land both players without spending a penny on transfer fees, it would give Moyes much more flexibility with how he uses the rest of his £70m budget across other areas of the squad.
