Sam Allardyce has revealed to The Liverpool Echo that Everton are resigned to losing reported Tottenham Hotspur target Ross Barkley this month.

Tottenham were heavily linked with a move for him during the summer and Spurs, according to The Mirror, are ‘confident’ of signing him during the winter transfer window.

The 24-year-old playmaker snubbed a deadline-day move to Chelsea in August but hasn’t kicked a ball since due to a hamstring injury.

Nevertheless, the Everton boss expects renewed interest from the “big boys” and has suggested that the England star – who is fit now – might leave this time.

“I think that we are resigned and the club was resigned before I got here that we’re going to lose Ross and I can’t see that changing,” said Allardyce to the Liverpool Echo.

“I expect there would be some interest some time in this window if there’s going to be any interest from one of the big boys.”

Signing Barkley would be huge for Tottenham, who haven’t quite scaled the heights of last season as Mauricio Pochettino’s side sit fifth in the Premier League.

But recruiting the Everton man would be a huge boost for their hopes of finishing in the top four, and of course he would be eligible to participate in the Lilywhites’ Champions League campaign.
