Therefore, it may not be a surprise many that that Sport are reporting that Everton have joined the race for Barcelona’s wantaway goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.
The 30-year-old European ace has struggled to break into Barca’s first-team during these past three seasons, with Marc Ter Stegen standing in his way.
If he makes a potential move to Goodison Park, then the Premier League side could provide him with the much-needed game time he has been craving for a long while.
Added with that, the Holland international would provide England’s senior man Pickford with the kick up the backside he has needed in order to take his game to the next level because if he doesn’t then a player like Cillessen would be breathing down his neck ready to take his place.
During the previous campaign, amid Pickford’s troubles, one thing he lacked was another keeper ready to pounce and take his pace and it could be something that Marco Silva might be looking to address this term.
Cillessen moving to Everton would suit both parties because it would show that the Merseyside club are serious about adding competition to their team, and the Dutchman would be well aware that if he does impress then a place in the starting XI is there for him.
The major positive for Pickford is that he ended the season very well both for club and country. Considering, they would be eager to bulk up other areas of the pitch, i.e the forward department, the goalkeeping area might end up taking a backseat, which would benefit Pickford.
