Everton are reportedly keen on Southampton right back Cedric Soares.
It’s no great secret that Everton need to bring in a right back during this month’s transfer window, and their latest target makes perfect sense.
Seamus Coleman has struggled at times this season, whilst youngster Jonjoe Kenny has yet to really show that he can become a top Premier League right back.
That may force Everton into the transfer window this month, and reports from to The Sun (print edition, page 53, 11th January) claim Everton are pursuing a deal for Southampton ace Cedric Soares.
Cedric, 25, would allegedly cost around £15million, and a move this month may be ideal for all parties involved.
Cedric, a Portuguese international, has already worked with Everton boss Marco Silva once, as they were together at Sporting in Portugal during the 2014-15 season.
Earlier this season and even when Silva was at Hull, the pair have been seen talking and embracing at the end of games against each other, summing up their strong working relationship even all these years on.
A solid Premier League defender for almost four years now, Cedric is of a good age at 27, and would be the ideal level of competition for Coleman in that right back spot at Goodison Park.
From Southampton’s perspective, £15million for Cedric would be good business too. That’s around three times what they paid for him in the first place, and new boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has sometimes preferred youngster Yan Valery anyway.
Add in that Hasenhuttl wants to sign Olympiakos right back Omar Elabdellaoui according to the Daily Mail – ironically a former favourite of Silva – and Cedric joining Everton this month may just be perfect for everybody.
