The Dutchman may not be joining up with compatriot Ronald Koeman after all.

Reports linking the magisterial Ever Banega with a sensational switch to Goodison Park have rather taken the focus away from Everton’s pursuit of Memphis Depay recently.

However, Jose Mourinho’s claims that he would be open to handing one of his players over to a Premier League rival, per The Telegraph, has led to an inevitable spike in speculation. Ronald Koeman, after all, admitted last month that he would be more an interested in taking his young compatriot to Goodison Park after losing his way at Old Trafford.

However, developments over in Italy could yet complicate a deal that looked nailed on not so long ago.

According to Football Espana, Sevilla’s fabled sporting director and esteemed transfer guru Monchi is set to bring his trophy laden reign at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to an end in order to replace the much-maligned and recently departed Walter Sabatini at Roma.

And, though reports suggest he will not make the move until the end of the season, Monchi’s arrival could give Roma a huge boost in their pursuit of the out-of-favour Manchester United winger.

After all, Samir Nasri, on loan at Sevilla from Manchester City, confirmed that he jumped at the chance of joining forces with Monchi due to his heralded reputation of helping fallen talents rekindle their careers, per Le 10 Sport – Kevin Gameiro, Ever Banega and Stephane Mbia to name but a few.

Needless to say, Nasri is back to his dazzling best after a few months in sunny Seville.

And Depay, who has played just 20 minutes of Premier League action this season, could be forgiven for following Nasri’s lead and attempting to rejuvenate his once promising career under a man revered for his notion of giving players a second chance.

Corriere Dello Sport claimed that Roma were ready to make their move for the Dutchman, with Everton potentially facing yet more transfer market frustration.
