Everton loanee Henry Onyekuru will be sidelined for a number of months.
Henry Onyekuru has posted on Instagram after returning to Everton earlier than expected from Belgian champions Anderlecht, where he suffered a nasty knee injury in December.
The 20-year-old was loaned to the Belgian giants in the summer after the Toffees completed a move to sign the exciting Nigeria international from KAS Eupen.
However, he suffered a long-term knee injury that is expected to keep him sidelined until the end of the season on December 22 when facing his former side, which has seen Everton take action by bringing the attacker home.
Onyekuru posted on Instagram that he is “grateful for the facilities” and the “medical team” are “working hard” to get him back to full fitness, with it yet to be seen if Onyekuru will leave again on loan or join the first team upon his recovery.
Onyekuru impressed with Anderlecht, scoring 10 goals in 28 league and cup outings despite playing out wide at times for Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s side after first joining Everton for a reported fee of £7milion.
The Toffees have allowed Kevin Mirallas to rejoin Olympiakos, but still have plenty of options out wide in Aaron Lennon, Ademola Lookman, Yannick Bolasie and Nikola Vlasic.
The signing of Cenk Tosun as well as the presence of Dom Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse also stands in the way of Onyekuru if he wishes to play up front. He cannot play for the first team, though, until he gains a work permit.
