Theo Walcott hasn’t yet scored for Everton this year.
Speaking to The Echo, Marco Silva has defended out-of-form Everton winger Theo Walcott, but admitted that his latest performances have ‘not been so good’.
The former Arsenal attacker, who joined Everton in January of 2018, hasn’t scored or set up a goal in 11 games for the Toffees across all competitions.
His last goal for the Goodison Park side came way back in December during a 6-2 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur.
Walcott has done very little to justify his inclusion in Silva’s first XI against Liverpool or Cardiff City in recent weeks.
But the Portuguese manager is adamant that the 47-cap England international will continue working hard in an effort to come through the other side of this rut.
“Of course [the last two games] have not been his best performances. Even he has this feeling,” he told The Echo. “Theo has had good moments, but in the last few games it’s not been so good. It’s part of the season.
“What I know and I am 100% sure about is that Theo works hard to do his best for the team in each match and will work tomorrow again to do his best.”
Everton, who have taken four points from a possible six, face Newcastle United this weekend and it’ll be interesting to see if Silva continues with the 29-year-old.
The problem with Walcott is that speed is a huge part of his game, and when he begins to lose some of that electric pace then he in turn loses some of what made him such a useful player.
Overall, he has netted six times in 41 league outings for the Merseysiders.
