The FA will have a problem if Everton’s Marco Silva isn’t dealt with as severely as Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The Football Association set a precedent in their punishment of Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino last week – and it’s important that Everton’s Marco Silva feels the same wrath.

Pochettino was issued a two-match touchline ban and fined £10,000 for angrily confronting referee Mike Dean immediately after a 2-1 defeat at Burnley in February.

This week the FA have charged Everton manager Silva [BBC Sport] for breaching the same rule, over his post-match conduct following a 3-2 defeat at Newcastle, and Spurs will be livid if the Portuguese isn’t dealt with as severely.

There were already murmurs of double standards over Pochettino’s punishment, after Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Nuno escaped bans earlier this season.

And if the Everton man isn’t slapped with the same consequences then it will give the North Londoners a lot more ammunition to fire at England’s governing body.

Silva, who confronted officials after the Toffees lost on Tyneside despite leading 2-0, told a post-match press conference that referee Lee Mason is ‘always seeing different things than what is normal’ [RTE Sport].

It’s very important that the FA continue with the same precedent. Otherwise, Tottenham will be a lot more furious than they reportedly were last week [The Telegraph] – and rightly so.
