PSV Eindhoven’s General Manager Toon Gerbrands has told the Liverpool Echo that Everton’s Marcel Brands will think Georginio Wijnaldum was his best signing at PSV.

Brands left AZ Alkmaar in order to take over as PSV’s director of football in 2010, and oversaw a great period of success for the club, winning three league titles.

Brands was in charge of transfers, and he brought the likes of Kevin Strootman, Dries Mertens and Jeffrey Bruma to the club, amongst a host of other impressive signings.

The Dutchman has already started to work his magic with Everton, as the likes of Lucas Digne, Bernard and Richarlison are already showing why Brands brought them to Goodison Park.

There is still more work to do for Brands, and he may look for more additions in the January transfer window, with Everton fans expecting more impressive deals.

Now, PSV’s General Manager Toon Gerbrands has commented on Brands, and has told the Liverpool Echo that he thinks Brands will say Liverpool ace Wijnaldum is his best signing.

Brands raided rivals Feyenoord in a controversial move in 2011, believing that he would help PSV win the Eredivisie title – and must now watch him play in a key role for Liverpool across Stanley Park.

“I think he will say Gini Wijnaldum and Lozano,” said Gerbrands. “We got Wijnaldum from Feyenoord and Marcel was 100% convinced we needed this player to win the championship because in the beginning it was a little bit tough. Initially the coach played him in an outside position in attack but he wanted to play as a No10 but Marcel stuck with him and talked to him,” he added.
