Oxford United boss Karl Robinson has told the Oxford Mail that he is speaking to Everton over signing Luke Garbutt.

Garbutt spent last season out on Oxford, and he impressed on his loan spell away from Goodison Park.

It seems that Garbutt could now depart Everton again this summer, with Oxford keen to snap him up again.

“We’re still speaking to Garbs and his parent club,” Robinson confirmed.

Garbutt was once regarded as one of Everton’s best prospects but he appears to have no future at Marco Silva’s side.

The left-back is now 26, and can no longer be considered a promising youngster for Everton.

It may be best for all parties if Garbutt does leave Everton this summer.

Leighton Baines, Lucas Digne and Antonee Robinson all appear to be ahead of Garbutt in the pecking order at Everton, meaning his chances of breaking back into their first-team seem very slim.

Oxford finished in mid-table in League One last season, but Robinson’s side did end the campaign strongly, which suggests that they could challenge for a top six spot next time around.
