Everton finally got back to winning ways thanks to goals from Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson against West Ham on Saturday.

Everton’s Lucas Digne spoke to The Liverpool Echo about Marco Silva’s management and the build-up to the game against West Ham last weekend.

Digne captained the side in Seamus Coleman’s absence and he, along with the whole squad, were under enormous pressure to get a result after losing each of their last four games in the league. Marco Silva’s tactics were spot on and the Toffees were unlucky to have not scored more than just two goals.

Speaking about the build-up to the game against the Hammers, Digne was full of praise for Silva and made a rather bold claim.

He said: “For me he is one of the best coaches I’ve had and I am sure he can be one of the best in the world.

“The mood [in the build-up] was perfect. You can feel that we had lost four games consecutively but everybody came with a good mentality and we saw on the pitch against West Ham that the mentality was totally different and we played very fast, with intensity, we won every challenge and we didn’t concede chances or nothing.”

West Ham not turning up to the game made it easy for the Toffees but that should take nothing away from their performance. Silva lives to fight another week but there is still room for improvement ahead of the game against Brighton this weekend.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s goal will give Silva a serious headache in terms of team selection for the game on Saturday while Yerry Mina’s knee problem could also force an unwanted change in the heart of their defence.

Irrespective of the changes, Silva’s side showed that they are capable of coming up with a good performance and that will be an absolute necessity this weekend against a Brighton who are capable of causing a few problems on their day.
