Everton moved into the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday by beating Rotherham United 3-1 at Goodison Park.

Gylfi Sigurdsson fired the Toffees into a 1-0 lead at the break, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin added a second on the hour mark.

Will Vaulks halved Everton’s deficit on 86 minutes to set up a nervy finale, but Calvert-Lewin completed his brace in the closing stages.

It was a game that saw summer signings Lucas Digne and Kurt Zouma given their full debuts, and Digne, one of his side’s best players on the night, has praised the “amazing atmosphere” created by the home fans last night.

One summer signing who wasn’t available was Richarlison, who served the first of a three-match ban after being sent off in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.

But the Brazilian, a £40 million signing from Watford, was still fully behind his team-mates and he too reacted to the victory on Twitter.
