With Sunderland looking to build a squad capable of promotion from the Championship, they may have to turn to Premier League loan options.

Sunderland have a huge rebuilding project ahead of them this summer as they look to bounce back from relegation to the Championship.

The Black Cats have yet to appoint a manager for the upcoming campaign following David Moyes’ resignation, but the new man has a tough task ahead of him at the Stadium of Light after a miserable season.

What’s more, without the riches of the Premier League, Sunderland may have to operate on a shoestring budget, making transfers all the more difficult.

For that reason, the Wearside club would be wise to look to the loan market, where a number of promising talents are likely to be available.

Everton’s Jonjoe Kenny could be one such option as he continues to impress as England’s first choice right-back at the U20 World Cup, with the Three Lions progressing to the semi-finals on Monday.

The 20-year-old has previously been on loan at Wigan Athletic and Oxford United in the lower leagues, but, with two Premier League appearances also under his belt, he looks capable of performing in the Championship and offers more going forward than Billy Jones.

Sunderland’s best form in recent years has come with DeAndre Yedlin and Patrick van Aanholt operating on either side of the defence and a move for Kenny would allow the Black Cats to strike a similar balance with Bryan Oviedo as they chase promotion.
