According to The Daily Mail, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United are interested in signing James McCarthy from Everton in the January transfer window.

It has been reported that Everton are open to letting McCarthy leave on loan this month in order to get him some valuable playing time.

The 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international central midfielder has not been in action for 12 months following a serious injury to his right leg last January.

West Ham do have injury problems at the moment, the Hammers have enough players in midfield and in attack.

McCarthy may get chances in the initial stages, but the Everton central midfielder could struggle once players return from injury for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

With Jake Livermore serving a suspension, and the likes of Gareth Barry, Chris Brunt and James Morrison in their 30s, McCarthy will get more chances of regular first-team football for Darren Moore’s team than he will at the London Stadium.

Moreover, with West Brom challenging for automatic promotion from the Championship, McCarthy will also have something major to aim for during the second half of the season.
