James McCarthy suffered a double leg break during Everton’s 1-1 draw against West Brom.
Everton midfielder James McCarthy has informed fans on Instagram that his operation “went well” after suffering a double leg break during the Toffees’ 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
McCarthy, 27, was just four Premier League appearances into a return to Everton action after missing the entire 2017-18 campaign through a knee injury, followed by a hamstring problem.
The former Wigan ace suffered the horrific leg break as he almost saved his side from conceding, getting his leg between Salomon Rondon and the ball. Venezuelan striker Rondon went to shoot, but instead connected with McCarthy.
Posting on his Instagram account, Ireland international McCarthy stated that the operation to fix his right leg, which Sam Allardyce confirmed was a “tibia and fibular fracture compounded.”
It remains to be seen how long McCarthy’s latest setback will see him sidelined for, with Everton already missing a number of players due to long-term injuries.
Seamus Coleman finally returned to action this week with the Toffees’ Under-23 side, while Maarten Stekelenburg and Ramiro Funes Mori remain sidelined with long-term injuries. Yannick Bolasie has also recently recovered from a knee injury.
