When The Sun reported back in March that Everton were considering planning a move for Cedric Bakambu if they ended up selling Romelu Lukaku in the summer, Toffees fans would be forgiven for questioning the logic behind a deal.
Bakambu was set to cost around £25 million, according to The Sun, but had scored just four league goals up until that point in the season.
However, his recent form makes interest in the 26-year-old seem a lot more understandable.
In his last six games, Bakambu has scored seven goals, including braces in the wins over Leganes and Sporting Gijon and a goal in the heavy defeat to Barcelona on Saturday.

That run does make his overall tally for the season look a lot more impressive – he has now scored 11 La Liga goals in 24 appearances, with only 15 starts under his belt – but Ronald Koeman would surely be wise to keep an eye on whether the French-born DR Congo international can sustain this form until the end of the campaign.
Replacing Lukaku would be an incredible task for Everton, and getting the wrong player could be a massive blow to the side’s chances of building upon the promise they have shown in the Premier League this term.
And although Bakambu has shown bags of quality in recent weeks, he surely still has a lot to prove before he is ready to potentially succeed the Belgian should he leave Goodison Park.
