The Toffees were knocked out of the FA Cup by Leicester City today.
Everton have been knocked out of the FA Cup after a defeat to Leicester City in the third round of the FA Cup.
The 2-1 loss at Goodison Park will be seen as a major disappointment for Everton fans – especially as they took the lead through Romelu Lukaku.
Everton fans will no doubt be thoroughly disappointed and, for many, they will consider the season effectively over.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman before the game
Everton were also dumped out of the League Cup early doors after a defeat to Championship side Norwich City – also at Goodison.
The result today means that Everton have no cup run at all to celebrate this season, they are not in Europe and with the top six now stretching away in the Premier League have little to play for on the domestic front.
Throughout the troubles of last season under Roberto Martinez the Spaniard still managed to take the Toffees to the semi-finals of both domestic cup competitions.
New manager Ronald Koeman during the press conference
It has been a mixed first half of the season for Everton, but a FA Cup run was necessary to consider the campaign a success.
Hopefully Everton can go on to secure a sixth-place finish in the league, as that is now looking like the most they could possibly achieve.
But this result is a huge blow to Koeman’s first season at Goodison Park.
