Everton have impressed in the summer transfer window but they still have work to do to seal their prime target.

Iceland's Gylfi Sigurdsson reacts

According to a report from the Sun, Everton will have to pay considerably more than £30million to prise Gylfi Sigurdsson away from Swansea City this summer. The good news for Toffees fans is that with so much impressive business already carried out, they can be patient in their pursuit of the Iceland international.

With Jordan Pickford and Davy Klaassen already secured and with Sandro Ramirez expected to follow in due course (as reported by the Liverpool Echo), Everton manager Ronald Koeman can look back at a job well done.

But that is only half of it, with Sigurdsson’s potential arrival transforming Everton’s attacking threat and ensuring they would be worthy top-four contenders come May.

A deal for the Swans talisman was never going to be easy, and negotiations should be tough and long over the next few months.

That said, Everton can go into the talks with a degree of calm, knowing that whatever happens they have secured a number of impressive signings already.

Sigurdsson would be the icing on the cake – and while another new striker may be needed if, as expected, Romelu Lukaku has played his last match for the Toffees – Everton need not panic.

They have been the most impressive shoppers in a transfer window that has thus far generated far more falsehoods than facts, and with the money to ultimately push through a deal for Sigurdsson, Everton hold plenty of power.

Only time will tell how this one plays out, but such has been their business to date that Everton will not be scrambling around to complete deals in the final few days of the window, throwing silly money at targets.

They can now focus solely on a deal for the Icelandic star and see where that takes them.
