Everton’s dream £60m Koulibaly signing looks further away than ever

Everton wanted to pay big for Kalidou Koulibaly.

Everton’s signings over the past 18 months have had limited success, and one player they should regret missing out on is Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Toffees reportedly made a huge £60 million offer in 2016 to try and sign Koulibaly, the Liverpool Echo reported, with his agent suggesting the possibility of a move was ‘absurd’.

One way Everton could have persuaded Koulibaly that a move would be viable would be to make huge strides themselves… while hoping Napoli would fall off.

The complete opposite has happened.

Everton embarrassed themselves in the Europa League this season, and sit perilously close to the Premier League relegation zone, with their dream of challenging for the top four gone already.

They may have money to spend, but their squad looks imbalanced and they have created problems for themselves.

Meanwhile Napoli are in superb form, and have begun the Serie A season unbeaten.

They are top of the table with 12 wins from 14 games, and hoping to win their first Serie A title since 1990.

Koulibaly has been a key part of their success, named by WhoScored in their Team of the Season so far for his rock solid performances at the back.

Everton’s hopes of luring him to Goodison Park seem further away than ever.
