Everton have failed to score in their last two Premier League games.
When Wayne Rooney found himself out of the team earlier in the season, there were suggestions in some quarters that Everton made the wrong decision in bringing him back to Goodison Park.
However, although he has endured some difficult moments, Rooney’s return to Everton has worked out rather well overall so far as he has scored eleven goals across all competitions, with three of those strikes having come since the appointment of Sam Allardyce as manager.
Rooney has missed Everton’s last two games through injury, with the Toffees drawing 0-0 at home to Chelsea and away to West Bromwich Albion.
Everton lacked conviction in an attacking sense in both fixtures and Rooney’s return certainly cannot come soon enough, especially considering the form that he was in prior to his absence.
Next up for Everton is an away game against Bournemouth on Saturday, but following that they have Premier League games against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, with an intriguing FA Cup third round tie against rivals Liverpool in between.
Everton will certainly hope that Rooney is back available for those high-profile fixtures, otherwise they could start to lose some of the momentum that they have gained since Allardyce was appointed.
