Southampton should consider making a summer move for the Everton centre-back.

Southampton manager Mark Hughes has a lot of work to do at St Mary’s this summer, if he is to guide his side to a vast improvement upon their 17th placed finish in the Premier League table last season.
One key area whee the Welshman will want to improve is his central defensive department, having still failed to bring in an able bodied replacement for Virgil van Dijk, after the Dutchman left the south coast for Liverpool in January.

With this in mind, Southampton should make a move for Everton’s Ashley Williams, who could be available this summer, according to the Guardian.

The experienced Wales international is widely considered to be one of the most uncompromising defenders in the game, and he would surely prove to be a great asset for the Saints.
He joined Everton from Swansea City in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £11 million, and he has gone on to make 73 appearances for the Toffees.
With the Merseysiders now under new management, though, it appears that his time at Goodison Park could be coming to an end.

With 79 international caps to his name, Williams would be an excellent addition to Southampton’s back-line, and his experience and defensive nouse would be a real asset to Hughes’ young side.
At 33, he is arguably already past his best, but that isn’t to say that he doesn’t still have a lot to offer at the very highest level.
According to Transfer Markt, the Everton defender is valued at just £4.5 million, and in today’s day and age, that would have to be considered as a real snip for Southampton.
