Newcastle United should consider a move for the Everton centre-back.

According to a report from the Chronicle, Rafa Benitez is still keen to add another centre-back to his ranks at Newcastle this summer, but quite who he is targeting is still a mystery.
An interesting option for the Magpies could be Everton’s Ashley Williams, who is attracting interest from Stoke City, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
The Toffees could be willing to allow the 33-year-old to leave on loan this summer, and are thought to be keen just to get the experienced centre-back off their wage bill.
Whilst Williams is arguably already past his best, his defensive nouse and experience could still prove to be a huge asset for Newcastle, and at the very least, he would be another body for Rafa to choose from.
The Wales international’s contract at Goodison Park expires next summer, so the Toon could then snap him up for free in 12 months time, if he proved to be a success at St James’ Park this season.

Williams is incredibly strong in the challenge, and despite the fact that he lacks any kind of pace, he is a competent reader of the game, and it could be argued that he would still be an upgrade on what Rafa currently has at his disposal.
The Spaniard clearly doesn’t have an endless supply of cash this summer, so he will have to be thrifty in his player recruitment, so signing the Everton defender on loan might just be a shrewd piece of business for Newcastle.
