Everton beat Watford 2-0 in the Carabao Cup last night.

Everton are into the last eight of the Carabao Cup after beating Watford 2-0 at Goodison Park on Tuesday night, but Anthony Gordon wasn’t involved.
After a gutting 3-2 loss at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon, Everton were looking to get back on track last night, with Marco Silva’s former club coming to town.
Watford have been struggling this season but managed to frustrate Everton for 72 minutes, before Mason Holgate headed the Toffees in front from Theo Walcott’s cross.
Watford pushed for a leveller to send the tie to penalties, but were caught on the break in the dying stages of the game as ex-Hornet Richarlison ran clear before cutting inside to smash home the second.
Everton will be looking to take confidence into this weekend’s game with Tottenham Hotspur, and Silva actually named a very strong side rather than rotating.
Moise Kean was given a chance in the first half, but there was no spot for youngster Anthony Gordon despite calls for the teenager to be included.
Gordon, 18, has racked up six goals and two assists in eight games for Everton’s development side this season, and fans are desperate to see him promoted to the first team.
That didn’t happen last night though, and Gordon took to Twitter to post a message to fans, suggesting that he will keep a good attitude whilst waiting for his chance – and that’s the kind of attitude that will stand him in good stead moving forward.
