Everton cashed in Ross Barkley and will be glad they did.
There was a lot of frustration at Everton in January when the club cashed in on midfielder Ross Barkley and sold him to Chelsea.
Barkley had put the club in a difficult spot by refusing to sign a new contract.
He had pulled out of a late move to Chelsea on deadline day in the summer, which would have netted Everton £35 million.
So getting ‘just’ £15 million seemed like a bit of an insult to Everton, but realistically, there was nothing they could do.
This was the hand Barkley had dealt the club, and it was £15 million or nothing.
Considering the England international could have walked away on a free transfer at the end of the season, Everton were glad to get a fee.
Since joining Chelsea, Barkley has done absolutely nothing of note.
He has barely played and struggled with injuries.
Barkley has played just 54 minutes of Premier League action. Is that worth £15 million?
Chelsea could have had him for free this summer, and actually to get £15 million looks like decent business all things considered for the Toffees.
