Everton beat Manchester City 4-0 in their most recent outing.
Tom Davies has told the Guardian that Ronald Koeman kept his advice tactical before starting him for Everton against Manchester City.
Davies was handed the biggest task of his career to date, when he was named in Koeman’s starting line-up against Pep Guardiola’s side.
And the youngster did not disappoint, as he put in a brilliant performance for Everton’s 4-0 win.
Davies helped to set-up Romelu Lukaku’s opener, before scoring his first goal for the club with a fine individual run.
And Davies said that Koeman did not give him any special treatment before the match, as he simply told him to keep an eye on City’s attacking talents.
“The manager told me to be aware of players running in behind me,” Davies revealed. “With the players they have got, like Sterling, Agüero, Silva and De Bruyne, they are always on your shoulder. It was something I had to be aware of and something I am working on.
“City could have really put us to the sword but, as a whole, the shape we kept as a team was very good and it showed by keeping a clean sheet. Afterwards the manager came into the dressing room and congratulated us as a team and he congratulated myself.”
Everton’s demolition over City was their finest result under the stewardship of Koeman.
The Toffees looked totally comfortable against the Citizens, and Davies was not the only youngster to impress.
Everton also started Mason Holgate in defence in the contest, while Ademola Lookman came on in the final stages and added a fourth.
Everton are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against struggling Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
