During an interview with the club’s official website, Everton youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin shared how he has advanced the timeframe of his development by studying Romelu Lukaku during first-team training sessions.
The 19-year-old striker is highly regarded at Goodison Park after signing for the Toffees on transfer deadline day, for a fee believed to be in the region of £1.5 million.
Having someone of Lukaku’s class to learn from through first-hand experience cannot be underestimated, and Calvert-Lewin spoke to evertonfc.com about the influence that the Belgian has had on the way in which he plays the game:
“I’m learning from Lukaku, who’s in the first team scoring goals, and that’s an experience in itself. Obviously there’s loads of little bits you pick up from everybody, so it’s a good experience all round. I’m all eyes just looking and learning really. It’s a different battle when I’m up there. I have to be that extra per cent better, each training session is like playing a game and I’m only going to get better from it.”

The former Sheffield United striker is yet to play a game for Ronald Koeman’s side since his summer move to Merseyside, and will be hoping that his continued efforts in training will be rewarded with an opportunity to showcase his talents in the first-team sooner rather than later.
The youngster’s talent is beyond question, and he has already racked up three caps for the England under-20’s.
If he fails to force his way into the first-team setup by January, however, maybe a loan move away from Everton will be beneficial to his development as he continues to grow as a player.
