Yacine Brahimi is one of those names Everton fans will remember as a transfer miss – but he could end up in the Premier League soon.
Juan Riquelme, Andriy Yarmolenko and Axel Witsel are just some of the players that were seemingly linked with Everton on a regular basis.
The same goes for Brahimi, who was on the Everton radar for a while.
Back in 2016, Everton launched a staggering £34million bid for Brahimi. Farhad Moshiri hadn’t long been at the club and Everton were willing to spend.
Brahimi was allegedly ‘distraught’ at missing out on the move, as he wanted to play in the Premier League.
Some three years later, Goal reported that Everton still wanted to sign Brahimi with the Algerian remaining on the radar.
Brahimi instead ended up at Qatari side Al-Rayyan and is now playing alongside former Everton man James Rodriguez there.
The skilful wide man has bagged 30 goals and 11 assists in 71 games for Al-Rayyan, and at 32 you would think his Premier League chance has gone.
That may not be the case though.
Foot Mercato note that Brahimi is out of contract this summer and is weighing up a move away.
Unnamed clubs in the Premier League are thought to be very keen on Brahimi, believing he is an attractive proposition on a free transfer.
Reading that may leave Everton fans wondering whether Brahimi finally makes the move to Goodison Park.
Even on a free transfer though, surely that door has long since closed.
Everton need to move forward and not look back to what could have been. There was a time where Brahimi could have been a good signing, even if £34million was a lot of money.
Now into his 30’s, Everton can’t go back to Brahimi this summer, even for free.
