Everton have reportedly joined the race for Adam Webster.

Everton will be keen to bring in a new centre back this summer, possibly even if they do manage to land Kurt Zouma on a permanent basis.

Phil Jagielka has left the club on a free transfer, so Marcel Brands may well pursue a replacement, and an English player may be ideal for homegrown quotas.

The Sun now claim that Everton are interested in signing Bristol City defender Adam Webster, joining the battle for the 24-year-old centre back.

Webster starred for the Robins last season, and would represent a Jagielka-like signing for Everton in making the step up to Goodison Park whilst others are focusing on foreign recruits.

Webster could be a superb signing for Everton, even at the £12million mentioned, but it’s possibly the last thing Aston Villa wanted to hear.

The Sun recently noted that Aston Villa want Webster, and they’re having problems at being priced out of some of their top targets, and won’t want to lose out on Webster to Everton as a result

Deals for Jack Butland, Neil Etheridge, Tyrone Mings and Kalvin Phillips are all becoming struggles according to The Sun, meaning Dean Smith is suffering frustration right now.

Webster looked to be emerging as a top target last week, but with Everton coming into the mix, Villa may be fearing even more transfer frustration with one of their top targets.
