According to a recent report from The Sun, Chelsea are preparing to make a £20 million bid for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey during the January transfer window after his brilliant start to the season in the Bundesliga.

Bailey has scored four goals and provided four assists in the top flight and has arguably been Leverkusen’s best player this term – setting up both goals in Friday’s win over Stuttgart – despite only arriving in Germany in January and not being given much of a chance to make an impact during his first few months with the club.

Genk's Leon Bailey takes part in a training session in Genk on November 23, 2016, on the eve of the UEFA Europa League football match against Rapid Wien.

The Sun reports that Chelsea are plotting to make a £20 million bid in January – but Antonio Conte has not been asked about moving for Bailey so he would certainly be forgiven for considering whether a switch to Stamford Bridge is the right one for him.

Instead, Everton should perhaps consider reigniting the interest that they showed just before he went to Bayer Leverkusen, as reported at the time by the Daily Mail.

The Toffees could certainly do with additional quality and depth on the wings, and Bailey’s form suggests that he would the ideal target for Sam Allardyce’s men – especially as the 20-year-old should only get better.

Everton showed in the summer that they are willing to spend significant amounts of money, and if Big Sam can keep the club away from the bottom three in the Premier League by the time January rolls around, it may not be a surprise if he is given the funds to go after players such as Bailey, who may make an impact this season, but will get better and better as he gains more experience.
