Everton want Marcano, but he is the perfect signing for Wolves

Wolves should consider move for Porto defender linked to Everton.

The future of Porto defender Ivan Marcano is uncertain with the 30-year-old’s contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Marcano has been linked with a move to Everton by The Mail, with Ronald Koeman still open to making defensive reinforcements.

Ambitious Championship side Wolves however might want to consider entering the fray for Marcano’s signature.

At Everton, Marcano would be little more than a back-up to Ashley Williams and Michael Keane, and at Wolves there would be better chances of starting regularly.

The defender may be playing in the Champions League this season for Porto, but that did not prevent Ruben Neves from swapping the club for Wolves.

Marcano can play at both centre-back and left-back and has leadership skills which could really benefit Wolves, whether they finish the season in the Championship or Premier League.

Wolves could tie him to a pre-contract agreement in January to secure him on a free next summer, or pay a cut price fee to buy him in January – which could depend on how Porto get on in the Champions League.

So far in his career Marcano has played in Spain, Greece, and Russia before spending the last three years in Portugal.

The Spanish defender is likely to have good offers, as Everton’s interest indicates, but Wolves showed this summer they are capable of mixing it with the big boys in the transfer market.
