Mateusz Hewelt had an ‘outstanding’ game for Everton Under-23s on Monday.
Speaking to Everton’s official website, David Unsworth has praised his ‘outstanding’ Under-23 goalkeeper Mateusz Hewelt.
The Toffees’ youngsters beat their Blackburn Rovers counterparts 2-0 at Southport on Monday.
First-half goals from Bassala Sambou and Fraser Hornby did the damage for Everton, who are hunting the Premier League 2 title – but Hewelt certainly did his bit.
The 22-year-old keeper produced a number of quality saves throughout, and Unsworth has admitted that he has never seen the young stopper play as well as that.
He told Everton’s website: “That’s the best I’ve seen him. I’ve told him that. He made saves to keep us in the game and it was a fantastic performance.
“He gave us a platform to go and win the game. His was one of a number of outstanding performances.”
The Polish ace is yet to make his senior debut for the Goodison Park side, though he has been an unused substitute on a number of occasions.
Joel Robles’s departure from Merseyside last summer left a spot open in Marco Silva’s squad, but the Portuguese looks to be using Joao Viriginia as his third-choice option, behind Jordan Pickford and Maarten Stekelenburg.
