The Mirror claim on their deadline-day blog (31/01, 12.19PM) that Everton have ‘resurrected’ a move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele – after Southampton saw a £3m bid accepted for the Lyon star, only for Dembele to reject the Saints.
Dembele, 26, has only scored two goals in 16 games for Lyon this season. It comes after netting 22 times in 36 games last season. But the signing of Alexandre Lacazette has pushed the ex-Celtic striker down the pecking order at Lyon.
Football Scotland claim that Southampton have had a £3m bid accepted for Dembele. But French newspaper L’Equipe say that Dembele has responded to the move to Southampton, rejecting a deal. He is out of contract in the summer.
The Mirror now report that Everton have reignited a move, under Sean Dyche. The Toffees made a bid for Dembele earlier in the window, but the sacking of Frank Lampard is sure to have affected a move. Now, Everton are back in.
It is an intriguing one, given the report from the Mirror states that Kamaldeen Suelemana has chosen to move to Southampton. It comes after the Rennes winger was the subject of £22million offers from Everton and the Saints.

Everton desperately need more firepower and Dembele, at £3m, is a no-brainer. Whether he is open to joining Dyche’s side at this midway stage in the season remains to be seen. It is interesting to see if he would accept an Everton move.
Especially, after rejecting Southampton and with Sulemana choosing Southampton over Everton. But at this late stage in the window, Dembele will surely be tempted to go. He has got to prefer a fight with Everton, than the bench at Lyon.
Everton do have options up top. But Dom Calvert-Lewin is only just returning after a long injury lay-off and Neal Maupay has failed to prove a success since he came in from Brighton last summer. Dembele has the pedigree.
