CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs has told Caught Offside that Everton are also in the race to sign Leverkusen ace Piero Hincapie along with Newcastle and Tottenham ahead of the summer – of course, if the Toffees avoid the drop this term.

Hincapie, 21, joined Leverkusen in the summer of 2021 and has starred over the last 18 months. In that time, the Ecuador star has clocked up 56 games for the German side, while also impressing for his nation at the World Cup.

Tottenham have been strongly linked with a move for Hincapie, following the January window. Newcastle have also shown prior interest. 90Min claim that Leverkusen want an enormous £66million for him, and he has signed a new deal.

But, that is said to be unlikely to stop clubs looking to sign Hincapie. Jacobs says that Spurs, Newcastle and Everton are all looking at a move for the defender – though, a move to bring in Hincapie at Goodison Park hinges on relegation.

“Tottenham do really like Hincapie. Newcastle and Everton have him on their radar, too,” Jacobs told Caught Offside. “I don’t see Everton being able to attract Hincapie, and if they go down there’s obviously no chance. Spurs is a better fit.”

Everton in race to sign Hincapie along with Newcastle and Tottenham

Tottenham desperately need more quality in defence. If Antonio Conte is going to be a success as Spurs manager – and of course, if he stays, then Spurs need better in defence. Eric Dier and Ben Davies are likely to be replaced by Spurs.

Left-footed Hincapie would be a very solid replacement for Davies. The Welshman has done little wrong, and is largely consistent – but rarely shines, either. Newcastle have a solid back line, but Hincapie could be cover for Sven Botman.

Everton meanwhile have a host of central defenders. But Conor Coady is only on loan. James Tarkowski is first choice. Yerry Mina, Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey remain on the books. So, some may have to be sold for him to come in.
