Everton manager Sean Dyche is now pushing the Goodison Park outfit to agree terms with Southampton regarding the transfer of Scotland international striker Che Adams.

That is according to The Guardian, which reports that Dyche is desperate for Everton to land Adams’ transfer from Southampton. Goodison Park chiefs have also given the Toffees’ coach assurances that the Blues are busy working to address their shortcomings in front of the net.

Everton accept they must sign another striker before the sales end after starting the season with a defeat. Bobby De Cordova-Reid sealed Fulham a 1-0 win on Merseyside last Saturday in the 73rd minute. Even though the Toffees attempted 19 shots to the Cottagers’ mere nine.

Dyche urges Everton to secure Adams’ transfer from Southampton

The frequency at which Dominic Calvert-Lewin is absent, plus Neal Maupay’s regularly dire performances, saw Everton successfully bid to sign Youssef Chermiti from Sporting Lisbon for £15m earlier this month. But the 19-year-old ace is very much seen as one for the future.

So, Dyche is now urging Everton to agree terms with Southampton for Adams’ transfer. He is hoping the Toffees can secure his move from the Saints, who value the 27-year-old at £12m. St Mary’s chiefs are happy to take a slight hit with Adams now in the last year of his contract.

Adams has two goals from two Championship appearances this term

Southampton paid Birmingham City £15m for Adams’ transfer in July 2019 and offered him a five-year, £52k-a-week contract. In return, the forward has scored 33 and assisted 15 goals in 148 games across all competitions. Adams offered 25 goals in 124 Premier League games.

Returning to the Championship following Southampton’s relegation has let Adams, who Ally McCoist once called ‘terrific’, get back amongst the goals. He has bagged two in two despite only playing 53 minutes. Boss Russell Martin also only fielded Adams as a substitute in both.
