Everton and Southampton are reportedly the early front-runners to sign Moussa Dembele this summer, with the French striker set to leave Olympique Lyonnais as a free agent at the end of this season.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Premier League are already eyeing moves to sign the 26-year-old forward, with Atletico Madrid unlikely to pursue a deal for Dembele as Everton and Southampton look to land an early bargain in the transfer window.

Once lauded as ‘exceptional’ by Pep Guardiola, Dembele has had an interesting few years with Lyon, with the striker hitting 22 goals in all competitions last season before seeing his return plummet to just three this campaign, with the forward criticised by fans and pundits for his inconsistency in the French league.

However, despite a pitiful tally this season, Everton and Southampton remain undeterred in their interest to sign Dembele, with the Premier League relegation candidates now seemingly keen on landing the forward once he leaves Lyon as a free agent this summer.

Indeed, both English sides are looking to completely overhaul their attacking options in the summer, and with Dembele now an option that’s available for free, Everton and Southampton could do battle in the window to sign the French striker at a bargain rate.

Moreover, with Dembele at the theoretical peak of his career, the forward could finally feel ready for a move to the Premier League, where the striker could make a huge name for himself with either Everton or Southampton having hit 70 goals for Lyon in the last five years.

Dembele’s record at Lyon has been weird, to say the least, yet there’s no denying that the former Celtic striker is a quality forward who knows how to find the back of the net, and Everton and Southampton could soon battle to sign the attacker this summer.

The 26-year-old’s decision to leave Lyon for free will attract a lot of interest from European clubs, yet for Everton and Southampton, the Premier League sides will want to be the victors in the race to sign Dembele, who could be keen on a move to England in the coming months.
