Gianluca Di Marzio has now issued Everton a possible blow to Sean Dyche’s pursuit of Arnaut Danjuma amid rival interest in the Villarreal forward’s transfer from AC Milan.
The San Siro side are pushing ahead with plans to strengthen the Rossoneri dressing room in light of UEFA clearing the Serie A side of all Financial Fair Play concerns. UEFA confirmed on Friday that AC Milan had fully complied with the regulations through the 2022 financial year.
So, Di Marzio now reports that AC Milan are advancing in talks to sign Danjuma of Villarreal. San Siro chiefs are also pushing ahead with their interest in Porto’s Mehdi Taremi and Tijjani Reijnders of AZ Alkmaar. The Rossoneri have also received positive news about Danjuma.
Everton have held talks over Danjuma’s transfer from Villarreal
Di Marzio notes that a transfer from Villarreal to AC Milan for Danjuma ‘can be done on loan’ after the Rossoneri received UEFA’s green light. The Serie A side are also not against the prospect of signing the Dutchman beside Taremi to add a new winger and a centre-forward.
The news will come as a blow to Dyche as Fabrizio Romano had reported this Friday that the Everton manager spoke directly with Danjuma about his transfer from Villarreal. Feyenoord, too, are keen with boss Arne Slot also holding talks with the 26-year-old over any switch.
Romano adds that AC Milan have so far only spoken with Danjuma’s agents. While The Sun’s Jack Rosser reported in June that Crystal Palace hold an interest in the forward. But Villarreal value the attacker at around £25m with the Lagos, Nigeria native under contract until 2026.
The tide has swung in AC Milan’s favour despite initial expectations
Rosser further noted that Danjuma was expected to return to the Premier League. He spent the second half of last season on loan to Tottenham Hotspur. But Di Marzio has now dealt a sizable blow to Dyche’s hopes by suggesting the Everton target may be on his way to Milan.
Danjuma only featured 12 times with Spurs for a total of 198 minutes. But he still scored two goals, including one in the Premier League off the bench against AFC Bournemouth. His only start came in Spurs’ penultimate game of the term at home to Brentford under Ryan Mason.
