Everton have reportedly identified Duvan Zapata as their main striker target for the summer, with Sean Dyche keen to sign the Atalanta star as his new leading man.

According to Tutto Atalanta, the Toffees will look to make a move for the Colombian international in the transfer window amid interest in both Zapata and Udinese striker Beto, with the 31-year-old Everton’s preferred option this summer.

Zapata has been one of the best attackers in Italy in recent years, however, the South American has struggled massively this season for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, with the attacker scoring just one goal in all competitions despite hitting double digits in the last five seasons.

Despite this sheer drop in form, Everton remain interested in signing Zapata, with the Toffees struggling massively for goals this season as Dyche looks to keep the Goodison Park side up in the Premier League amid another battle to survive the drop.

Indeed, with Everton sitting just two points above the drop zone, keeping their top-flight status is key to the club’s future, as will be signing a top striker in the summer regardless of what division the Merseyside club find itself in.

However, there’s no denying that Zapata himself will only be keen on a move to Everton if they’re still a Premier League side, and even with the Colombian struggling for form this season, the 31-year-old could be an ideal signing for Dyche and his team this summer.

One goal this season is nothing short of abysmal for Zapata, who for years has been one of Atalanta’s best players and one of their main goal sources in their incredible rise to the top. Yet for Everton, the Toffees must trust history in this case, with the South American a potential bargain.

With a striker needed on Goodison, Zapata could be the man to get the goals flowing again for Dyche’s side, and Everton could be making a smart play in making the striker their main attacking target for the summer if the player himself wants a move to England.
