Everton bid for Franck Kessie last month but he is determined to sign for Manchester United.
Franck Kessie in action for Atalanta challenging Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain
Everton’s hopes of signing Ivory Coast international Franck Kessie appear to have been dented by the midfielder’s declaration he wants to sign for Manchester United.
The Guardian reported last month that Atalanta had rejected a £15 million move from Everton for Kessie, with the Serie A side determined not to sell the midfielder in January.
So the Toffees wait, hoping for favourable luck in the summer. But their task is likely to be a lot harder after Kessie’s come and get me plea to Manchester United.
Kessie told Tuttomercatoweb: “I did not hear any rumours around Roma, as I was at the Africa Cup of Nations and so focused only on playing.
“I like the Premier League and in particular Manchester United, the club I dream of playing for.
“Chelsea? That is also a big club, nobody would turn them down, but I dream of United.”
United have already been linked to the 20-year-old wonderkid, with The Sun reporting last month that he was high on their list of priorities for the summer, with Red Devils scouts impressed by him when watching Eric Bailly play for Ivory Coast.
Bailly himself last week was reported to have personally recommended to manager Jose Mourinho that he moves for Kessie The Sun reported.
United also have urgency to add a new midfielder, with Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger ageing, and Morgan Schneiderlin sold to Everton.
If Everton can pull off a transfer for Kessie from here, it might just be a mini miracle.
