Mahmoud Dahoud has ended any speculation over his future at Borussia Dortmund amid links with Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City by signing a new contract.

The Bundesliga outfit announced on Thursday that Dahoud has penned a new deal, keeping him at the Westfalenstadion until 2023. His previous terms were due to expire next year, creating scope for significant transfer interest this summer.

Dahoud’s one-year extension to his Dortmund deal will deal blows to Everton, Tottenham and Manchester City’s respective transfer plans. The Daily Mail had reported in March that each were keeping close tabs on the German’s situation.

Chelsea and Manchester City were among the most likely destinations for Dahoud were he to leave Borussia Dortmund. Both had tried to sign the 25-year-old in 2017 before he left Borussia Monchengladbach for BVB in a £10m deal.

Tottenham and Everton also threw their hats into the mix to sign Dahoud from Dortmund this summer. His contract situation made the two-cap international an attractive option for many who are looking to bolster their engine rooms.

Dahoud’s stock rose considerably last season after emerging as one of BVB’s shining lights under interim boss Edin Terzic. His all-action midfield displays added plenty of dynamism to matches, as well as goals. He scored a vital strike against Sevilla in the Champions League.

Everton and Tottenham miss out on ‘unpredictable’ talent in Dortmund star Dahoud

After signing a new contract, Dahoud told Dortmund’s official website that parts of his time at the Westfalenstadion have been tough. But now that his performances have picked up and he is a key player, he is looking forward to continuing his time in black-and-yellow.

Dahoud signing new terms will come as bad news for Everton and Tottenham who would have benefited from his presence. The German is a silky operator who would have slotted in well in north London or on Merseyside.

BVB Sports Director Michael Zorc also lauded Dahoud after his new contract. He told the Bundesliga side’s website: “Mo is a positive guy who can create unpredictable actions on the pitch. In the second half of last season, he showed what potential he has.”
